Accessible services

We work closely with our operators to ensure that services are accessible for you.

We recommend you contact the operator before your journey to ensure an accessible service is available.

If you are an aged person or a person with a disability (or a carer of such a person) and have difficulty accessing public transport or a private vehicle, you could be eligible for community transport services.

Both Black and White Cabs and Yellow Cabs offer maxi taxis for groups and wheelchair accessible vehicles to all regions in South East Queensland.

Please note, taxi services are not part of the TransLink network and separate fares apply.

Guide, hearing and assistance animals

Certified guide, hearing and assistance animals are welcome on all of our services.

If you need to travel with an assistance animal you will need an access card. There are two options:

  1. Apply to Disability Services Queensland to certify your assistance dog.
  2. Apply for a TransLink Animal Assistance Pass.

You must present your access card when requested by an authorised person. Assistance animals must also wear a coat or harness to easily identify them as an assistance animal.

Additional information about guide, hearing or assistance dogs can be found on the Disability Services Queensland website or by calling 1800 210 976.

Buses

Most buses operating in our network have low floors or ramp systems.

All busway stations have lifts, ramps and pathways to help with ease of access. We also have tactile paving for people with vision impairment and audio systems to make announcements clearer for people wearing hearing aids.

Trains

Queensland Rail has an ongoing program of creating a barrier free environment which involves constructing new lifts, ramps, access paths, toilets, signs and seating. Better access benefits all passengers including mothers with small children or babies in prams, bicycle users and older citizens.

All new trains under development are fully accessible and existing trains are being refurbished to meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act. Spaces in trains for wheelchairs, prams and bikes are being increased and doors and grabrails painted yellow to assist people to enter and ride safely and securely.

Spaces for wheelchairs and scooters are provided in most Queensland Rail services. These are located in the fourth carriage close to the guard. In trains without allocated spaces, passengers should park in the carriage entry.

Ferries

All CityCats are fully accessible with spaces for wheelchairs, prams and bikes. They have wide access gates and there is Disability Discrimination Act compliant seating both inside the cabin and out the back of the CityCat. They have audio systems to make announcements clearer for people wearing hearing aids.

All CityCat terminals are accessible except North Quay ferry terminal. The Queensland Government is working towards making this ferry terminal easily accessible.

CityFerry and Cross River Ferry services are not accessible.
